Will my power wheelchair be covered by my insurance provider?

Medicare, Medicaid and the majority of private insurance companies provide coverage for power wheelchairs, mostly between 50% and 80% of a set allowable price. If you’re unsure if your insurance provider offers such coverage, don’t worry, The SCOOTER Store will contact your insurance company to find out.

How do I find out if I qualify?

Most insurance providers require your doctor to fill out a form that is called a Certificate of Medical Necessity. This form has several questions that assess your mobility. If your doctor feels that you need an power wheelchair, he/she will fill out the form and send it back to us with a written prescription and office visit notes that support your need for a power wheelchair. Upon receiving these forms, we will submit them to your insurance provider to find out if you qualify.

What are some of the ways a power wheelchair will enhance my lifestyle?

Power wheelchairs will enhance your lifestyle in many ways, primarily improving your overall quality of life. Almost 89 percent of U.S. seniors want to spend the rest of their lives in the comfort of their own homes, yet more than half are concerned with their ability to do so. In fact, seniors fear the loss of independence more than they fear death.* Power wheelchairs are the solution to your mobility needs and an enhanced lifestyle. Here are some reasons why:

  • Power wheelchairs provide enhanced autonomy and self-reliability
  • Power wheelchairs promote independent living and encourage you to regain your self-confidence, freedom, and most important, to take back your life
  • They provide increased awareness among the mobility challenged and offer improved options to cope with impairments
  • Power wheelchairs continually improve in comfort and performance as the years pass, helping you reclaim your life with ease and in style
